Born in Sevastopol into a family of musicians, Mariya Kim began her piano studies at the age of six at the music school in her hometown with Valeria Romanenko, graduating in 1998 under the guidance of her mother, Tatiana Kim.
In the same year, she began her studies at the University of Music, Drama and Media in Hanover with Prof. Vladimir Krainev. From 2009 to 2011, she also studied at the F. Chopin University of Music in Warsaw with Prof. Piotr Paleczny. She completed her training with several artistic and pedagogical diplomas and concert exams.
Mariya Kim is a multiple prize winner of renowned international piano competitions. Her awards include first prize at the International Piano Competition ‘In Memory of V. Horowitz’, the Patras International Piano Competition, the ‘Piano Campus’ International Piano Competition, the Paderewski International Piano Competition, the Concorso Internazionale Pianistico ‘Scriabin’, the ‘Camillo Togni’ Competition and the Maria Callas Grand Prix in Athens. She has also won first prizes at the Shenzhen International Piano Concerto Competition, the Concorso Città di Cantù, the Seoul International Music Competition and the Jose Iturbi International Music Competition in Los Angeles. Her prize at the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano rounds off her competition profile.
Her concert engagements have taken her to major concert halls around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Warsaw Philharmonic, the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Hall, the National Philharmonic Hall of Ukraine, the Kremlin Hall in Moscow, the Arts Hall of Korea in Seoul, the Megaron Mousikis in Athens, the Palace ‘Ukraina’ in Kiev and the National Concert Hall in Taipei, to name but a few.
As a soloist, she has worked with orchestras in Europe, Asia and the USA, including the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the Korean National Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre National d'Île de France, the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, the Ukrainian State Symphony Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonia Iuventus, the W. Lutosławski Philharmonic Orchestra in Wroclaw, the Philharmonia Baltica, the Opole Philharmonic Orchestra, the Polish Radio Chamber Orchestra ‘Amadeus’, the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra Taipei, the Pomeranian Philharmonic Orchestra Bydgoszcz and others.
Her concert tours have taken her to numerous countries in Europe, Asia and the USA, including Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Poland, Greece, the Netherlands, Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, Taiwan, Malaysia, China, Korea and the United States.
In addition to her artistic activities, Mariya Kim is dedicated to teaching as a lecturer in piano at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar and as a substitute professor of piano at the University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt am Main. She also regularly serves as a juror at international competitions.
