The special feature of the Master's degree programme in Music Theory in Weimar is its artistic orientation: it concludes with a Master's project in which students are required to present stylistically diverse works from their Master's degree programme.

A close connection to music practice is also sought in the minor subject lessons: At the end of each semester, a concert is held in which results from the major and minor subjects are presented.

In the Bachelor / Master of Education programme, students have the option of choosing an orientation or profile area in music theory. Here, too, composition is style-related:

11th episode: Music theory professor Jörn Arnecke

Jörn Arnecke, professor of music theory and composer, looks at how artificial intelligence will change the world of music. For him, it is clear that we need to help shape this unstoppable development. Perhaps AI will be able to take over routine tasks in the future, giving us more room for creativity? Will musical quality perhaps even increase as a result of AI? What risks should we not lose sight of?

In the podcast, the music theorist also talks about how he came to specialise in his field and why it also plays an important role for instrumentalists.
