Weimar’s cultural partners jointly announce the 2027/28 theme year
With the reopening of the East Wing of the Weimar City Palace in October 2026, a new chapter begins for the Klassik Stiftung Weimar in the planning of its themed years. Together with all of Weimar’s cultural institutions, it is focusing on the programs for 2027 and 2028 and uniting them under the overarching theme “Feminine Weimar.”
Weimar’s cultural partners are bringing their programs together under a common theme. Museums, archives, memorial sites, and other institutions will tell the stories of significant women from the Goethe era, the modern era, and the present day from various perspectives. The result will be a citywide cultural program featuring exhibitions, events, artistic experiments, and public debates that invites visitors to rediscover Weimar.
The partners have been working closely together since fall 2025. Through regular meetings, they develop content, coordinate programs, and create joint offerings. The collaboration is coordinated by weimar GmbH, which is also responsible for the graphic design of the joint presentation. The project is supported by the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Agriculture, and Rural Affairs.
This close cooperation offers numerous advantages: it makes it easier for visitors to find their way around, generates greater attention beyond the city limits, and strengthens Weimar’s position as a cultural and travel destination. At the same time, it opens up new opportunities for collaboration with the hotel industry, the restaurant sector, and other tourism partners. Thus, not only the participating cultural institutions but the entire city benefits.
The cultural partners will provide a first glimpse of the joint program on June 30, 2026, at the “Weimarer Zimmer,” the branch of the Weimar Classic Foundation at the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation in Berlin. There, they will present the thematic years “Feminine Weimar” as well as the first exhibitions and dialogue formats scheduled for 2027 and 2028.

Museums and galleries: Klassik Stiftung Weimar with all its venues, House of the Weimar Republic, ACC Gallery, Museum of Forced Labor under National Socialism, Weimar City Museum, Buchenwald and Mittelbau Dora Memorial Foundation, Women Art Gallery
Theaters: German National Theater Weimar, Kunstfest Weimar, as well as smaller stages
Universities and Educational Institutions: Bauhaus University Weimar, University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar, Thuringia State Archives, Weimar City Archives, Weimar City Administration, Weimar Department of Culture, Evangelical Church of Weimar, Weimar Adult Education Center
Tourism Partners: Weimar Tourist Information, city tour guides, retailers and artisans, restaurateurs, and hoteliers
