The Baroque Ensemble Commedia dell’Arte Wins Second Prize in Spain
The Baroque Ensemble Commedia dell’Arte, founded in Weimar in 2024, won second prize on September 9, 2026, at the “Generation SMADE” Early Music Competition in Navarra (Spain). The ensemble consists of five musicians from Chile, Japan, and Hungary and combines historical performance practice with theater, interactive storytelling, and stage design. The programs actively involve the audience in the musical and narrative experience.
The connection to the FRANZ LISZT University of Music in Weimar is particularly close: Four of the five ensemble members are or were students at the university. Soprano Romina De la Fuente has just completed her master’s degree in musicology with a specialization in music practice (voice) in Weimar and studied voice with Teresa Maria Winkler. Baroque violinist Rodrigo Aros earned his bachelor’s degree in baroque violin in Weimar in the class of Prof. Lina Tur Bonet and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Music in Frankfurt am Main.
Rodrigo Pandorfa initially studied violin in Prof. Kathrin ten Hagen’s class in Weimar and is currently pursuing both a bachelor’s degree in Baroque violin with Prof. Lina Tur Bonet and a master’s degree in violin. Harpsichordist Gyula Szilágyi completed his master’s degree under Prof. Bernhard Klapprott at the Weimar Music University and is currently studying at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague. The fifth ensemble member, Baroque cellist Moeko Aiba, completed her master’s degree in Baroque cello at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt.
The ensemble can also be seen in Germany: Commedia dell’Arte will perform on Wednesday, September 23, at 7:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Regenbogen Congregation in Frankfurt. Admission is free.
