World Wide Weimar
Concert with international students offers a musical journey across borders
The International Office of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar invites you to the third ‘World Wide Weimar’ concert. The varied event on Thursday, 10 April at 7:00 pm in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus promises to be a special experience that explores the diversity and depth of classical music in an intercultural context. Admission to this professionally moderated cultural and musical journey is free.
‘World Wide Weimar’ offers a stage to those international students who have been honoured by the STIBET scholarship of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for their special intercultural commitment or profile.
The artists will not only perform traditional melodies from their home countries, but also their own compositions and interpretations of well-known works of Western classical music. The programme includes Vietnamese folk music for guitar, an aria by Georges Bizet, a self-composed song by Yuna Rusanova, and music from South Korea.
In addition, an artistic-scientific project on the ‘choro’ music of Brazil will be presented at the concert, which was carried out at the UNESCO Chair for Transcultural Music Studies at the Department of Musicology Weimar-Jena. An ensemble with a colourful mix of instruments, from cello to harp to piano, will perform some samples of this Brazilian music.
Overall, the programme mix of ‘World Wide Weimar’ builds an exciting bridge from the heritage of classical music to its evolutionary development through global influences.
