Unheard Voices
Closing event of Voices of Women at the University of Stavanger
“Unheard Voices” is the topic of the international symposium of the Voices of Women project, for which seven students from various institutes at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar and their professors are making their way to Norway.
The meeting will take place from October 9th to 12th at the University of Stavanger. It is the last of a series of six conferences with different focuses that have been held in Groningen, Tromsø and Weimar, among other places, since 2022. In various masterclasses and workshops, international participants have the opportunity to exchange ideas and network.
The students will be accompanied by Prof. Dr. Lena Haselmann-Kränzle and Prof. Clemens Tiburtius, who will give their own master classes on October 9. In addition, musicology student Constanze Zacharias will give a lecture on the topic “Woke up this Morning - female empowerment and self reassurance in Blues and Jazz”.
Voices of Women (VOW) is a transnational educational project funded by the ERASMUS+ program and organizationally supported by the HfM's International Office. The project connects students and teachers to strengthen and secure the rightful place of women in historical, contemporary, and future art production.
VOW contributes to the EU's shared values of cultural awareness rooted in historical heritage, with the aim of giving women's works an appropriate share of attention, analysis, interpretation and performance.
The project activities aim to perform and receive repertoire created by women composers in Europe, with a focus on the 19th and 20th centuries. Another goal of VOW is to build a transnational network of artists, researchers, and stakeholders who want to help ensure that women get the place they deserve in the music world.
As part of the VOW series, two conferences were held at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar in June 2023 and April 2024. The latter focused on songs by female composers in the context of social and political conditions.
