The ‘Chamber Music Days’ at the University of Music invite you to 13 concerts

The University of Music invites you to enjoy intense and varied concert experiences from 26 June to 12 July.

During the Chamber Music Days, 58 student ensembles will perform in a total of 13 concerts.

The duos, trios, quartets and larger ensembles will present the chamber music work of the summer semester – lively, diverse and of a high artistic standard. Admission to all concerts is free!

‘The programme covers a wide range from classical piano trios and string quartets to brass and guitar ensembles and unusual combinations such as clarinet and accordion,’ explains the new chamber music professor Martin Klett.

The faceted repertoire ranges from masterpieces of the Classical and Romantic periods – including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, César Franck and Fanny Hensel – to jazz and folk-inspired works by Dave Brubeck and Manuel de Falla.

The concerts take place at various venues, including the halls in the Fürstenhaus and in the monastery building Am Palais of the university, the Notenbank Weimar and the Forum Seebach.

To kick off the ‘Chamber Music Days’, the on Thursday, 26 June at 7:30 p.m. in the Notenbank . The programme includes Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's ‘Spring Quartet’, Ludwig van Beethoven's Cello Sonata No. 3 in A major and Victor Ewald's Brass Quintet Op. 5 No. 1.

Under the motto ‘Timbres of the Soul’, a chamber music concert will follow on Friday, 27 June at 7:30 p.m. in the Saal Am Palais. Highlights include Mozart's Quintet in E-flat major for piano and wind instruments, K. 452, and Beethoven's early string quartet, Op. 18 No. 4. The duo sonata ‘From Jewish Life’ for bassoon and accordion by Ernest Bloch promises to be exciting in terms of timbre.

The following day, 28 June, at 7:30 p.m., the Festsaal Fürstenhaus will host a concert featuring, among other works, a suite for two pianos by Anton Arensky.

The ‘Chamber Music Days’ will be rounded off on 12 July with a concert by the newly formed large brass ensemble ‘Liszt Brass’ in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus. ‘All music lovers are cordially invited to experience the diversity of chamber music and discover the musical creativity of the students live,’ says Martin Klett.
