Leap onto the opera stage
The “Thuringian Opera Studio” is looking for scholarship holders for the 2026/27 season
The Thuringian Opera Studio is opening its doors again: for the 2026/27 season, up to six highly talented singers will be accepted into the renowned postgraduate program. After its successful (re)launch in fall 2025, the unique program, supported by the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar and its partners—the German National Theater Weimar, the Theater Erfurt, the Theater Nordhausen, and the Theater Altenburg Gera—is entering its next round.
Participants can expect an intensive year between the university and the stage: they will deepen their artistic skills in lessons and role study while gaining valuable professional experience in new productions and repertoire performances at the major theaters in Thuringia.
A monthly scholarship enables them to concentrate fully on their artistic development. At the end of the program, participants receive a certificate documenting their achievements at both the university and the theater, which can open doors to future engagements.
We are looking for young singers who have completed their vocal studies (BA, MA, or diploma), are no older than 30 at the time of application, and have a very good command of German. Admission is decided by an aptitude test at the end of February 2026 in Weimar, which takes the form of an audition in accordance with theater standards.
Assessment criteria include excellent vocal talent, musicality, artistic imagination, stylistic sensitivity, vocal maturity, scenic imagination, and the ability to communicate with fellow performers and the audience.
Applications can be submitted from October 1 to November 30, 2025, exclusively online via the university portal. Applicants must submit an application form with a photo, a signed resume, proof of graduation, a video with three arias (one of which must be in German), and proof of payment of the aptitude test fee. Only complete applications submitted by the deadline will be considered.
