Performance project TRIGGER turns the ear into a signpost at the Belvedere Studio Theatre
A cross-institutional artistic project at the Weimar University of Music invites you to the Belvedere Palace Theatre at the end of the winter semester. In the TRIGGER project on Thursday, 22 February at 7:30 p.m. in the Belvedere Studio Theatre, students from the Performance profile in the Master's degree in Rhythmics with Prof. Meike Brit Hübner will move across the stage - and physically interact with the music of Adrian Ciesielski, who is studying Electroacoustic Composition with Prof. Maximilian Marcoll.
"In TRIGGER, the instrument is the platform stage," explains Prof Meike Brit Hübner. "Creaking, groaning, shaking, amplified stage. The contact microphones used, which work via sound pick-ups, make the quiet loud and manipulable. The familiar sounds different, the old can be experienced anew."
In TRIGGER, project initiator Adrian Ciesielski develops new sound worlds using the sounds recorded by the moving students in a joint session. The spectrum ranges from subtle and delicate to drastically powerful sounds.
"At the same time, TRIGGER demands a negotiation of the visual form through the visibility and presence of the performers," explains Hübner and asks: "How does an aesthetic field of tension arise from the specific interaction of movement and sound?"
The students explore and differentiate their movements and develop the events performatively and improvisationally. The focus is on interactively exploring the interweaving of space, time and tension together.
"Producing sound and reacting to it in a perceptive way describes the sensorimotor functional circuit that, alongside choreographically developed images, represents the lively complexity in TRIGGER," says Prof Hübner. "It's about exploring the quality of sound that shapes movement. As with playing an instrument, the ear is the guide." The special action space is the direct feedback of the movement quality in sound through technical amplification.
