New Master of Music
Artistic master's programme to replace the four existing programmes starting in the summer semester of 2026
Starting in the summer semester of 2026, the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar will launch a new artistic master's programme (Master of Music, 120 ECTS). The University of Music has thus comprehensively revised and further developed its existing Master of Music programmes in order to prepare students specifically for the changing requirements of the diverse professional fields.
The four previous independent Master's programmes have been merged into a single model. An individually customisable specialisation area gives students the opportunity to set personal priorities during their studies and thus prepare themselves individually for the requirements of the future job market.
Within four semesters, students deepen the skills they acquired in their Bachelor's programme and further develop their artistic profile. The programme specifically prepares students for a professional career as a musician, with a wide range of opportunities in a broad and diverse professional field (in artistic, educational or artistic-scientific fields of activity).
The focus is on intensive training in the chosen major, accompanied by individual support from experienced lecturers. In addition, the structure of the programme offers the opportunity to acquire additional qualifications in a specialisation area with freely selectable courses. Students decide for themselves which artistic, technical and personal skills they would like to develop further. They can thus position themselves broadly for the future job market or focus specifically on a specialisation.
In addition to an artistic focus, modules from the fields of performance practice, music education, arts management, musicology or music theory can be selected. Supplementary content on digitalisation, inclusion, cultural diversity and intercultural sensitivity is also available. Individual projects and practical experience round off the programme.
Further information on the individual study programmes and the application process can be found here.
Applications will be accepted via the campus portal starting on 1 October 2025. Applications for the previous master's programmes are no longer possible.
