New faces, new tasks

The Weimar Music University starts the winter semester with a new management team

The university management of the Weimar Music university has been reorganized and restructured. In addition to University Chancellor Maren Brechtefeld, who began her eight-year term in July, there is also a new vice president on the management team: Prof. Christian Wilm Müller took office as Vice President for Practice on October 1, 2025, succeeding Prof. Juan M.V. Garcia, who shaped the diverse field of work with great creativity for three years.

“I would like to thank Prof. Garcia for his great commitment and look forward to the coming period in the new management team,” says University President Prof. Anne-Kathrin Lindig.

There are also changes in the responsibilities of the vice presidents. The Vice President for Studies and Teaching, Prof. Dagmar Brauns, will take over project management for the implementation of the campus management system.

Dr. Jens Ewen will be responsible for research in the future. As “Vice President for Strategic University Development,” his focus will also be on social responsibility and the university community.

“This will strengthen three areas that are particularly relevant for the development of the university in the coming years,” says the Vice President for Strategic University Development.

“In a time of crisis, I believe our institution has a responsibility to be a role model for a strong, resilient, open society. Music and science are ideal for conveying and exemplifying this.” According to Jens Ewen, the prerequisite for this is reliable, transparent communication and healthy cooperation. “I will do my utmost to achieve this in the coming years.”

The chancellor cites bringing together various interest groups within the University of Music as one of her primary tasks. The goal is to harmonize processes that are as efficient, legally sound, and practical as possible.

My colleagues at the University of Music often act in a very pragmatic and goal-oriented manner, and I observe a great openness to change almost everywhere,“ explains Maren Brechtefeld. ”I am confident that we will succeed in advancing the digitization of administration without additional financial resources – a concern that is very close to my heart, but also takes up a lot of time."

Prof. Christian Wilm Müller, the new Vice President for Practice, expresses his gratitude for the trust placed in him. “I will, of course, do everything I can to fulfill the tasks ahead of me in the best possible way for our university,” emphasizes the pianist and piano professor.

“I see it as motivation to continue my predecessor's efforts to foster positive cooperation in the areas of responsibility of the Vice President for Practice – and to contribute to a contemporary, constantly updated public image for our institution. In any case, I hope for strong participation and support from the university community.”
