Opera workshop with excerpts from “Così fan tutte,” “Rusalka,” and “La Bohème”
The Department of Vocal Studies and Theatre at the Weimar Music University invites you to two special evenings. An “opera workshop” on Friday, February 6, and Saturday, February 7, both at 7:00 p.m. in the Belvedere Studio Theater, offers a glimpse into the artistic work that takes place daily in scenic classes. Three major acts and scenes from the classical opera repertoire will be presented—with everything that brings musical theater to life: voice, body, ensemble, as well as stage design, costumes, and lighting.
The program includes the finale of Act 1 from Mozart's “Così fan tutte,” Act 1 from Dvořák's ‘Rusalka’ up to the famous Moon Aria, and Act 3 from Puccini's “La Bohème.” Three works, three musical worlds: together they paint a panorama of what opera training means today, namely individual artistic development in harmony with concentrated and professional ensemble work.
The singers are students from the Department of Vocal Studies and Theatre, and the stage direction is by Prof. Jochen Biganzoli. The costumes are by Bernadette Anna Nieslony, Thomas Lippick is responsible for the video projections, and the evenings have been musically rehearsed by Alevtina Sagitullina and Márton Terts. Ana Maria Lupu, Jaroslav Novosiolov, and Márton Terts will accompany on the piano.
“One focus of the scenic teaching at the Department of Vocal Studies and Theatre is precisely this ensemble work,” says director Prof. Jochen Biganzoli. “That moment when individual performances come together to create a credible theatrical reality. The intense connection between voice, body, space, music, and partner interaction creates the presence that characterizes music theater.”
The evening is aimed at students, teachers, and all music theater enthusiasts who would like to gain a transparent insight into the training in the scenic field at the university—and at the same time experience the emotional and scenic power of grand opera.
