A Christmas story full of sound
The university's chamber choir sings in the Herz-Jesu-Kirche and goes on tour
This year, the Chamber Choir of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar will begin its traditional pre-Christmas tour in Weimar's Catholic Church: the public is cordially invited to the Advent concert on Thursday, December 14 at 7:30 pm in the Herz-Jesu-Kirche.
Under the artistic direction of Prof. Jürgen Puschbeck, the focus will be on Hugo Distler's "Christmas Story" op. 10 for choristers and mixed choir, composed in 1933. Admission is free!
In the further Advent concert program, around 45 young singers from the renowned and internationally award-winning student ensemble will sing arrangements of German and international Advent and Christmas songs.
Among others, "Schlaf, mein Kindelein" by Max Reger and the touching "Jul, jul, stralande jul" by Gustaf Nordqvist will be heard. In addition, "Fum, Fum, Fum" (Catalonia), "Hator, Hator" (Basque Country), "I saw three ships" (England) and many other songs will be performed. The choir will be conducted by other students from the Weimar University of Music.
The soloists are Johanna Koerrenz on the verrophone (a glass harp) and the tenor Felix Stöppler as the Evangelist. Johanna Koerrenz plays the Adagio in C for glass harmonica KV 356 (617a) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the "Petite Impression" by Fred Schnaubelt as an instrumental intermezzo.
The chamber choir will then go on a short tour with this beautiful program. On December 16 at 3 p.m., the choir will sing in the Catholic Church of the Holy Family in Braunlage, followed by another performance at 7 p.m. in the Catholic Church of St. Benno in Bad Lauterberg.
On December 17, the choir will first perform at 2 p.m. in the Liebfrauenkirche in Frankenberg. The final concert on the same day will be an Advent concert in the Erlöserkirche in Kassel at 7 p.m..
