Symphony concert with the university orchestra and chamber choir in the Weimarhalle
An evening full of delicate colours and impressionistic moods awaits you: the orchestra and chamber choir of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar invite you to a grand symphony concert on Thursday, 20 June at 7:30 p.m. in the Weimarhalle.
The programmeincludes works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. The concert is also a farewell to Nicolás Pasquet, professor of conducting, in his role as principal conductor of ‘his’ university orchestra, whose sound qualities he has shaped with great success for around 30 years.
Tickets are available from the Weimar Tourist Information Centre and at the box office for €20 (€15 concessions).
The soloist in Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto in G major is Lovre Marušić, who would like to complete his concert exam in the class of Prof. Grigory Gruzman with this performance. From the underlying drama of the first movement to the existential tension of the ‘Andante con moto’ to the final rondo, the poetic and dramatic aspects of this extraordinary concerto can be experienced.
This work is preceded by Debussy's ‘La Mer’, in whose symphonic sketches the French composer artfully processes maritime memories of dawn, the wind and the play of the waves.
The audience can look forward to the second suite from Ravel's ballet ‘Daphnis et Chloé’, which in its impressionistic magic almost seamlessly follows on from Debussy. Here too, the first part, ‘Lever du jour’, presents the musical atmosphere of a sunrise in string instruments, flutes and harps, before the tempo increases in the ‘Pantomime’ and ‘Danse générale’ and the story of the foundlings Daphnis and Chloé becomes more dramatic.
The orchestra is joined by the excellent chamber choir of the Weimar Music university, rehearsed by Prof. Jürgen Puschbeck.
The solo pianist Lovre Marušić last made headlines in December 2023 when he won the 2nd prize, worth 25,000 euros, at the 10th International Beethoven Competition in Bonn. In 2021, he won 2nd prize at the renowned Cleveland International Piano Competition in the USA. Beethoven's 4th Piano Concerto is not a completely new work for him: he has already performed it with orchestras in Cleveland, Bratislava, Zagreb, St. Petersburg and Belgrade.
The Croatian received his first piano lessons in his home town of Omiš before moving to Moscow in 2006 to attend the Central Music School of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory. After studying at the Music Academy in Zagreb, he began his postgraduate studies at the Music university in Weimar.
Lovre Marušić has already performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Zagreb Philharmonic, the Croatian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Belgrade Symphony Orchestra, among others. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has appeared at festivals and concert series in Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Liechtenstein, Russia, France and the USA.
