Jena solo hornist Robinson Wappler becomes honorary professor in Weimar
Robinson Wappler has been teaching at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar and its centre for highly gifted students, the Music High School Schloss Belvedere, for more than 20 years. Now ‘his’ university has appointed the principal horn of the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra as honorary professor of horn.
He received his certificate from President Professor Anne-Kathrin Lindig on Tuesday, 28 May in the University Centre at the Horn.
‘Robinson Wappler is a great support and enrichment to our team,’ said the Director of the Institute of Wind Instruments and Percussion, Prof Markus Leoson, and Horn Professor Jörg Brückner in unison. ‘He works highly professionally, has great expertise and is an outstanding person at all levels. Many of his former students at the Centre for Highly Gifted Students have gone on to study, win competitions and obtain outstanding orchestral positions at home and abroad.’
‘For me, this appointment is an extremely great honour, but also a recognition of the work I have done and reflects my attachment to the University of Music,’ says the newly appointed honorary professor himself. ‘Both the trusting and productive collaboration with Prof Jörg Brückner and the proximity of our Jena Philharmonic Orchestra to the University of Music in Weimar are always an important driving force in this educational activity.’
Robinson Wappler, born in Leipzig in 1968, received his first violin lessons at the age of four. He began playing the horn at the age of 12. After initially studying in Leipzig, he transferred to the FRANZ LISZT Weimar University of Music in the class of Prof Karl Biehlig. Following his undergraduate studies, he completed his postgraduate studies for the concert exam with Prof Reiner Heimbuch in 1996.
At the age of 21, Robinson Wappler became solo horn player at the Erfurt Theatre. After a stopover in the royal seat of Gotha, he was appointed principal horn at the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he still holds today. Solo and chamber music activities as well as temporary work in various orchestras complement his artistic work.
