Merry Christmas
The University of Music wishes you a harmonious holiday season and a good start to 2026
With best wishes for a merry and peaceful Christmas, the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar will be closing for the Christmas break in the next few days.
On Thursday, December 18, our chamber choir sang its traditional Advent concert in the packed Herz-Jesu-Kirche, and students, teachers, and administrators came together once again on December 17 in the Mensa Am Park for a joint participatory Christmas Oratorio.
Organizer Luca Siede was present at the oratorio and writes: "Johann Sebastian Bach's Christmas Oratorio was performed spontaneously, without prior rehearsals and carried by a great collective energy. Students, teachers, and staff from the University of Music FRANZ LISZT and the Bauhaus University Weimar came together to make music or listen and create a pre-Christmas meeting place.
The idea behind the project thrives on spontaneity: all participants met for the first time at the performance venue without having rehearsed together beforehand. It is precisely this spontaneous music-making that gives the evening its special charm and makes every moment of the performance unique. The cafeteria, as the central hub of student life, provided a deliberately unusual but very special venue for this event.
A total of over 250 people actively participated in making music in the choir or orchestra. A total of eight soloists shared the recitatives and arias among themselves, and thanks to the confident direction of conducting student Sebastian Ickstadt, the musical experience was a thoroughly enjoyable one. Special thanks also go to the Student Council of the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar (StuRa) for their financial support of the project."
You can also look forward to an atmospheric Christmas video, which will be published on the university's YouTube channel on December 23: www.youtube.com/hfmfranzlisztweimar
