Freshly restored

Score of the Weimar premiere of Humperdinck's ‘Hansel and Gretel’ is presented at the DNT

Just in time for the premiere of Engelbert Humperdinck's fairy-tale opera ‘Hänsel und Gretel’ at the German National Theatre Weimar (DNT), the newly restored score of the Weimar premiere of 23 December 1893 is returning ‘home’.

As part of a small presentation at the German National Theatre Weimar on Saturday, 9 November at 5:30 pm, Dr. Christoph Meixner, head of the University Archive and Thuringian State Music Archive, will introduce the valuable source to the audience of the premiere and explain the results of the extensive restoration work, which took several months.

Thanks to private donations, the preservation of this valuable score, from which Richard Strauss once conducted this opera for the first time, is secured for the future. The restored score will be shown again as part of the ‘Long Night of the Sciences’ on 15 November at the Hochschulzentrum am Horn as part of archive tours.
