‘Joy and fulfilment’

Marietta Zumbült is the new honorary professor of singing at the Music University in Weimar

The Department of Voice and Music Theatre at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar will be receiving expert support from 1 October 2024: today, soprano and vocal coach Marietta Zumbült was appointed honorary professor of singing by President Prof. Anne-Kathrin Lindig. She has been a lecturer at the Department of Voice at the Beethovenhaus Belvedere in Weimar for many years.

‘Living and working in the stimulating intellectual climate of a city like Weimar for many years has inspired me time and again, whether in the Ilmpark or theatre, whether in encounters with special and creative fellow human beings,’ says Marietta Zumbült. ’To contribute my extensive experience in the familiar setting of the Department of Singing is both a pleasure and a fulfilment for me. Of course, I am particularly pleased about the appreciation that has been shown to me by being awarded the honorary professorship.’

Marietta Zumbült studied singing/musical theatre at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and at the University of Music and Theatre in Hannover. Prof. William Reimer and Carol Richardson were her most important teachers. Masterclasses with Judith Beckmann and Eugine Rabine and a degree in vocal pedagogy at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar from 1999 to 2002 completed her training. In 1986, she was awarded a scholarship by the Richard Wagner Association in Essen.

After her first engagement at the Brandenburg Theatre from 1993, Marietta Zumbült was engaged as a lyric soprano at the German National Theatre in Weimar from 1997 to 2009. Here she sang all the major roles in her field, including Pamina, Sophie (Rosenkavalier), the Countess (The Marriage of Figaro), Marie (The Bartered Bride), Micaela (Carmen) and the title role in Verdi's ‘Luisa Miller’. Her busy guest performance schedule has taken her not only throughout Germany, but also to Hungary, Israel, France, Denmark, the Baltic States and Russia, among other places.

She has worked with conductors such as George Alexander Albrecht, Jörg Straube, Heinz Hennig, Christopher Hogwood, Reinhard Goebel, Jörg Peter Weigle and Simon Preston. Well-known orchestras such as the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Talinna Kammerorkester, the Staatsorchester Halle and Musica Antiqua Cologne are her trusted partners. Her extensive repertoire covers a wide range of periods, from Renaissance and Baroque to contemporary music.

Chamber music and song are particularly close to her heart. In this capacity, Marietta Zumbült performs mainly with Sabine Meyer, Liese Klahn, Reiner Wehle and Friederike Richter. She is a regular guest at major music festivals such as the Innsbruck Early Music Festival, the Göttingen International Handel Festival, the Veszprém Festival (Hungary), the Chaise-Dieu Festival, the Halle Handel Festival, the Thuringia Bach Festival, the Lower Saxony Music Days and many more. Numerous CD productions and radio recordings demonstrate her vocal and artistic talent.

Since 2013, she has been a team member of the seminar management of personality-building and strengthening seminars and has her own practice for therapeutic work. Since 2018, she has been holding her own workshops on voice, breathing and body awareness, presence and performance training.
