First round has started
50 young violinists participate in the 10th International LOUIS SPOHR Competition in Weimar
The first round of the 10th International LOUIS SPOHR Competition for Young Violinists at the Weimar University of Music began today (Thursday). Of 60 pre-selected young violinists from all over the world, 50 have arrived in Weimar: 17 in the youngest category I (2009 and younger), 17 in the middle category II (2008 - 2006) and 16 in the oldest category III (2005 - 2001).
All judging rounds until 3 November are open to the public and can be attended with free admission.
"We can look forward to great musical talents! We were already struck by the particularly high level of the participants during the video selection," says the jury chairman, Weimar violin professor Dr. Friedemann Eichhorn.
"They will show their skills in three age categories up to 21 years in a true foray through the violin literature, from Bach to the modern. A highlight will certainly be the final round with violin concertos by Mozart, Bruch and Mendelssohn with the university orchestra conducted by Nicolás Pasquet," says Eichhorn.
The first round will take place from 27 October to Saturday, 29 October from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus and in the Saal Am Palais. The participants in Category III will play daily from 5 pm in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus.
The second round will then follow from 30 October to 1 November, daily at 10 a.m. (Category I), 4 p.m. (Category II) and 7.30 p.m. (Category III, with the exception of 1 November) in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus.
The final round with the university orchestra conducted by Prof. Nicolás Pasquet will move to the Great Hall of the Belvedere Music High School on 2.11. and 3.11..
A free bus transfer will also be offered here: Outward journey on 2.11. at 5 p.m., on 3.11. at 9 a.m. and on 3.11. at 2 p.m., departing from the Fürstenhaus at the Platz der Demokratie. Return journey after each round from the bus stop at the Music High School Schloss Belvedere.
The 3rd round will also be broadcast live on www.hfm-weimar.de.
The prize winners' concert will take place on Friday, 4 November at 7:30 pm in the Weimarhalle. The Jena Philharmonic Orchestra will perform under the direction of Prof. Nicolás Pasquet. Tickets cost 19 euros, reduced rate 15 euros, and are available at the Tourist Information Office in Weimar and at the box office.
