University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar welcomes 197 new students from all over the world
There is great joy at the university about the "Erstis": For the winter semester 2023/24, the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar welcomes 197 new students. They were ceremoniously enrolled on Monday, 9 October in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus with lots of music.
They were welcomed by university president Prof. Anne-Kathrin Lindig and Marie-Sophie Stallbaum, the deputy chair of the student council. A total of 827 young musicians, music teachers and musicologists are currently studying in the European city of culture.
Of the 197 new students, 169 are enrolled in Weimar for the first time - the others are changing from a Bachelor's to a Master's programme, for example. The 169 "first-timers" are divided into 87 German and 82 international students. They come to Weimar from all over the world - from all regions of Asia, South and North America as well as many European countries.
The largest increases this time are at the Department of Musicology Weimar-Jena (with Cultural Management) with a total of 47, the Department of Wind Instruments and Percussion with 36 and the Department of Music Education and Church Music with 21 new students.
These are followed by the Departments of String Instruments and Harp with 21 as well, the Department of New Music and Jazz with 13, the Department of Piano with 9 - as well as theDepartment of Voice | Music Theatre with 8 new students. A total of 26 students in mobility programmes (e.g. Erasmus+) come to the Weimar University of Music from all over Europe.
During the matriculation ceremony at 6 p.m. in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus, the award of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD Price) was presented to the accordionist Mihail Cunetchi from Prof. Claudia Buder's class. He received the certificate from the hands of Prof. Juan M.V. Garcia, Vice President for Artistic Practice and Research, and Ly Tran, Head of the International Office. The honouree expressed his gratitude with "Excerpts from Balgkann" by Uroš Rojko for accordion solo.
