New University Council of the Weimar University of Music begins four-year term of office
Last weekend, the new university council of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar was constituted. Business graduate and entrepreneur Dr. Stefan Feuerstein will be an external member of the council for another four years. The internal members Petra Büchner (employee of the personnel department) and accordion professor Claudia Buder will also serve another term.
The Thuringian Ministry of Economy, Science and Digital Society (TMWWDG) is now represented by Ms. Elke Winter, who works as an officer and deputy head of unit in various university support and supervision units.
In addition, there are four new external members: the former Freiburg University of Music Rector Dr. Rüdiger Nolte, who was elected as the new Chair at the constituent meeting of the University Council on Saturday, 21 October; the Professor of North American Studies at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Prof. Dr. Barbara Buchenau, as Deputy Chairperson; the University Professor of Speech at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, Annett Matzke, as well as (from 1 March 2024) the previous representative of the TMWWDG on the University Council, Ministerialdirigent Peter Gemmeke.
During the matinee on Franz Liszt's 212th birthday last Sunday, 22 October, in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus, several members of the University Council were officially bidden farewell after many years of service. University President Prof. Anne-Kathrin Lindig expressed her heartfelt thanks for their constructive participation: "They have always accompanied us in a benevolent and critical manner and had the important, unbiased view from the outside."
Prof. Dr. Arnulf Melzer (TU Munich), who had been Chairman of the University Council until 6 October, was bid farewell after a total of 15 years of service. Georg Krupp (former member of the Executive Board of Deutsche Bank) was also a member of the Council for 15 years.
Dr. Gaby Luther (TU Berlin) had also been an external member since 2016. In addition, Prof. Dr. Wolfram Huschke, former Rector of the Weimar University of Music from 1993 to 2001, who had been a member of the University Council since 2008 - most recently as Deputy Chair - bid farewell.
