The prize winners of the 10th International LOUIS SPOHR Competition for Young Violinists have been chosen
The jury has cast its vote: The 10th International LOUIS SPOHR Competition for Young Violinists at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar has nine prize winners.
The first prize in the youngest category I (*2009 and younger) went to the 11-year-old Finn Lilja Haatainen. The 2nd prize was won by the 12-year-old Ukrainian Margarita Pochebut. The 3rd prize winner, 10-year-old violinist Laura Jin, comes from Australia.
In Category II (*2008 - 2006), the 14-year-old US-American Anton Carus prevailed over the competition. He won 1st prize ahead of 16-year-old Latvian violinist Elza Siliņa (2nd prize). The 15-year-old US-American Lily Sullivan won the 3rd prize.
In Category III (*2005 - 2001) Alexandra Weissbecker was successful: the 21-year-old German won 1st prize ahead of 17-year-old Moë Dierstein, born in Freiburg (Breisgau) (2nd prize). The 3rd prize went to the 18-year-old Polish violinist Hanna Pozorska.
The eight-member international jury chaired by Weimar violin professor Dr. Friedemann Eichhorn also awarded a number of special prizes.
As part of the festive prize winners' concert on Friday, 4 November 2022 at 7:30 pm in the Weimarhalle, the prize-winning young violinists will once again be heard performing Mozart, Bruch and Mendelssohn violin concertos.
The Jena Philharmonic Orchestra will perform under the direction of Prof. Nicolás Pasquet. Tickets cost 19 euros, reduced 15 euros, and are available at the Tourist Information in Weimar and at the box office.
A total of 50 participants from 20 countries around the world travelled to Weimar for the 10th International LOUIS SPOHR Competition. Since 27 October, they have been competing at the highest level in three rounds for prizes and special prizes worth a total of more than 17,000 euros.
