Debuts in Paris and Weimar
Mezzo-soprano Christel Loetzsch sings at major theatres throughout Europe
Mezzo-soprano Christel Loetzsch, a graduate of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar, is currently making her debut in the role of Giovane Dante in the opera ‘Il Viaggio, Dante’ by Pascal Dusapin at the Opéra National de Paris. She is performing alongside the renowned baritone Bo Skovhus in a production by Claus Guth, with Maestro Kent Nagano conducting the Paris Opera Orchestra.
Another Dusapin project will then take her to Munich on 25 April: she will sing in three scenes from his opera ‘Penthesilea’, which will be performed in concert by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Ariane Mathiak.
Christel Loetzsch has also already made her debut in the role of ‘Herodias’ in Richard Strauss's opera ‘Salome’ at the German National Theatre in Weimar during the current season. The young mezzo-soprano also has other high-profile engagements.
On 7 and 8 May, she will be appearing as the Drum Major in Viktor Ullmann's opera ‘Der Kaiser von Atlantis’ with the Orchestre de Paris at the Philharmonie in Paris, and in July she will be singing the role of Judith in Bela Bartók's ‘Bluebeard's Castle’ at the Tyrolean Festival in Erl, once again in a production by the renowned director Claus Guth.
Christel Loetzsch received her singing diploma from the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar in 2012. From 2012 to 2014, she was a member of the ‘Young Ensemble’ at the Semperoper Dresden. During this time, she sang Zerlina (Don Giovanni) in the Arena di Verona and made her debut at the San Francisco Opera as Dorabella (Così fan tutte). In the seasons 2015 to 2018, Loetzsch was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Theater & Philharmonie Thüringen, where she made numerous successful role debuts.
Since 2019, her career has continued to gain momentum internationally. She made her debut under Alain Altinoglu in the role of the 3rd Witch in the opera ‘Macbeth Underworld’ by Pascal Dusapin at La Monnaie Theatre in Brussels. She celebrated another debut in 2020 as Penthesilea in the opera of the same name by Pascal Dusapin at the Philharmonie de Paris and was subsequently invited by the Orchestre de Paris to sing ‘Le soleil des eaux’ by Pierre Boulez under Klaus Mäkelä in 2021.
In the 2021/22 season, Christel Loetzsch was engaged for Arnold Schönberg's ‘Pierrot lunaire’ with the Dresden Philharmonic under the direction of Marek Janowski. She also sang Fricka in Wagner's ‘Rheingold’ at the Bern Opera. In the same season, she made her role debut as the Nurse in Richard Strauss's ‘Die Frau ohne Schatten’ at the Frankfurt Opera under Sebastian Weigle.
Engagements as Floßhilde in ‘Rheingold’ and ‘Götterdämmerung’ and Rossweiße in ‘Die Walküre’ by Richard Wagner also led the mezzo-soprano to the Dresden Philharmonic and, in the 2023/24 season, to the La Monnaie de Munt opera house in Brussels.
