Summer event in Belvedere

Long Night of Music Theatre with performances, music, dance, theatre and architecture

The Weimar Music University invites you to an entertaining summer event in the idyllic setting of the Kavaliershäuser at Belvedere Palace. The Department of Singing | Music Theatre and Early Music, in cooperation with the Media and Architecture and Urban Studies faculties of the Bauhaus University Weimar, will be hosting a "Long Night of Music Theatre" on Saturday, 6 July from 6:00 p.m.

The venues are the Belvedere Studio Theatre, the Beethoven House and the courtyard between them. The project is being managed by Jochen Biganzoli, Professor of Music Theatre/Scene, and Bernd Niedecken, an expert in historical dance.

Between 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., the "Long Night" offers a colourful mix of music, performance, opera, sculpture, installation, theatre, songs, texts, dance, architecture, video and even the German premiere of a chamber opera. A French restaurant will be providing culinary delights throughout the evening. From 11 p.m., a party "from Baroque to Techno" will be held in the Studiotheater Belvedere.

The plan is to start with an overture with fanfares and texts "open air" between the Beethoven House and the Belvedere Studio Theatre. There will also be recurring baroque performances with singers, musicians and video. In the auditorium of the Beethoven House, international students from the Music university will sing (and comment on) arias and songs from their respective homelands.

The Studiotheater Belvedere will host two staged performances, including "Phytopolis", a musical theatre journey into the world of plants.

The German premiere of "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Grace Evangeline Mason will also be performed at the studio theatre. The English composer will present her chamber opera in one act to the public in person on Saturday, 6 July at 11:00 a.m. in the Saal Am Palais. She will give insights into her work and creative process with a video presentation. Admission to the Palais is free.

Tickets for the "Long Night of Music Theatre" are available from the Weimar Tourist Information Centre and at the box office for 8 euros, concessions 5 euros.
