Seal of approval for more autonomy

Liszt University is the first university of music in Germany to receive system accreditation under the new law

An elaborate and challenging process has successfully come to an end: The University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar was the first university of music in Germany to be systematically accredited according to the new law by resolution of the Accreditation Council.

Thus, together with the universities of music and theater in Hamburg and Munich, which were accredited by the Central Evaluation and Accreditation Agency (ZEvA), a total of three German universities of music now bear the seal of the Accreditation Council.

The University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar has convinced the evaluation commission appointed by the accreditation agency and the Accreditation Council of its quality assurance system for teaching and studies and has demonstrated the implementation of nationwide and state-specific quality criteria for both its system and its study programs.

With the new seal of approval, the university now gains a great deal of autonomy and can accredit its entire range of courses itself, independently of external agencies. On its own responsibility, it checks the quality and performance of the study programs on the one hand and supports their systematic and continuous qualitative development on the other.

The commission's report attests to the university's "high awareness of a quality culture in teaching and learning. The reviewers praise the "high motivation of the university staff with regard to the implementation and application of quality management" as well as the diverse and flexible survey instruments, which make it possible to respond to special situational needs and demands. "In this way, the special situation of teaching at a university of music is taken into account through special formats."

The awarding of the seal to the Weimar University of Music is an important milestone in a multi-year process that was borne of challenges for the university community and also necessitated structural changes. The goal was and is to combine strong interdisciplinary and cross-functional cooperation and a high level of personal responsibility with a wide range of creative freedom.
