Elisabeth Grümmer was born in Rostock. She lives in Leipzig and works as a freelance oboist with modern and historical instruments in various ensembles. Her formative engagements over many years were with the NDR Elbphilharmonieorchester Hamburg, the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and the Camerata Salzburg, among others. 

She studied modern oboe with Prof. Matthias Bäcker and Prof. Paulus van der Merwe in Weimar and Hamburg; in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and in the Master's programme Historical Oboe Instruments with Prof. Xenia Löffler at the UdK Berlin. 

She currently plays mainly with the Lauttencompagney Berlin, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, La Festa Hannover and the Leipzig ensembles Camerata Lipsiensis, Pauliner Barockensemble and in the Leipzig and Saxon Baroque Orchestras as solo oboist.

She has been teaching the subjects baroque oboe as a minor and reed making for the oboe class at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar since October 2021.
