Maximilian Wagner-Shibata completed his Bachelor's and Master's studies at the Karlsruhe University of Music in the class of Prof. Dirk Hirthe. In 2022 he completed his Konzertexamens studies in the solo class of Prof. Jens Björn-Larsen at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media.

Already as a teenager he achieved several first national prizes at "Jugend Musiziert" and among others also the special prize of the German Tubaforum 2010. Maximilian Wagner-Shibata was a scholarship holder of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes, the German Music Competition 2013, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Orchestra 2016 and a member of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie.

At the beginning of 2017, he became tuba player with the Staatskapelle Weimar. In 2018 he won prizes at the International Tuba Competition in Akiyoshidai (Japan) and the International Brass-Percussion Competition in Jeju (South Korea), and in 2020 at the Concours International de Tuba in Geneva (Switzerland). In 2020 he made his debut as a soloist with the Staatskapelle Weimar.
