    SchuMu BigBand

The audience particularly praises the band's joy of playing, which is transmitted to the auditorium. Founded in 1998 by Prof. Gero Schmidt-Oberländer as an ensemble of the Department of Music Education, the SchuMu BigBand consists almost exclusively of student teachers. Regular performances in Weimar venues, but also in the region, have been enthusiastically celebrated. Highlights of the past years were open-air concerts at the Fête de la musique in Weimar, a guest appearance at the Big Band Night in Leipzig's legendary Moritzbastei or cooperations with various jazz choirs. In 2012, the SchuMu BigBand played the opening concert of the 1st Federal Congress of Music Education in the Weimarhalle in front of over 1,000 music teachers* from all over Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Shortly thereafter, the band toured Luxembourg and performed at the Luxembourg Jazz Club in the presence of the Luxembourg Minister of Culture. In 2014, the band provided the backdrop for a greeting by the German Chancellor in Berlin, and in 2016 they played at the Buchenwald Day in the German National Theater. A partnership exists with the Uni-BigBand Bayreuth.
