Simply masterful
Weimar Master Classes with 17 concerts in the Fürstenhaus, Forum Seebach and Weimarhalle
A colourful array of concerts awaits the audience at the 64th Weimar Master Classes at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar. From 20 July to 3 August, both the guest professors and the participants of the various courses will present their artistic skills and the sonorous results of their joint work in 17 concerts in the Fürstenhaus festival hall, the Forum Seebach and the Weimarhalle.
Around 100 participants from all over the world are expected to attend the courses and concerts, having been selected from a total of 190 applications.
The series "Master in Concert" on 20 July will enable a musical encounter with luminaries in their field. The violinist Lucie Robert and the pianist Jeffrey Cohen will play violin sonatas by Brahms and Strauss as a duo. Meanwhile, the guest professors Luka Juhart (accordion) and Uroš Rojko (clarinet) will perform an evening of self-composed works on 21 July.
Supported by a pianist, violinist Nora Chastain and cellist Troels Svane will even form a piano trio: on 24 July, they will perform Schumann's Trio No. 3 op. 110, among other works. And finally, star violist Nils Mönkemeyer will also give a concert on 27 July with works from Mozart to Clarke.
In addition to a large number of free course concerts, selected participants in the master classes will be performing in two larger concerts. Under the title "Meisterhaft", the students of Lucie Robert (violin) and Jeffrey Cohen (piano) will take the stage in the Fürstenhaus festival hall on 26 July, followed by the best participants in the courses of Nils Mönkemeyer (viola) and Norma Fisher (piano) on 2 August.
The lavish concert programme is rounded off by three "debuts": the winners of renowned competitions will be presenting themselves. On 23 July, the pianist Arina Antonosian will be the first to perform as the first prize winner of the Khachaturian International Competition 2023. As the winner of the 9th International JOSEPH JOACHIM Chamber Music Competition 2022 in Weimar, the "Trio Incendio" will be back on 28 July with a programme of purely Czech music.
The debut series will be rounded off by Anna Avramidou and Collins Tanujaya on the concert grand piano: the winners of the 6th International FRANZ LISZT Competition | Young Pianists 2023 will perform works by Scarlatti to Skrjabin on 31 July.
The audience can look forward to the brilliant finale of the "Weimar Master Classes": selected participants from various instrumental courses will perform with the Jena Philharmonic under the direction of Markus L. Frank on Saturday, 3 August at 7:30 p.m. in the Weimarhalle.
Tickets are available from the Weimar Tourist Information Centre and at the box office for 20/15 euros (master class concert), 15/10 euros (debut) and 12/8 euros (master class). Admission to the course concerts is free.
