Renowned soprano in Weimar

Dame Felicity Lott gives master class for students of the Department of Voice | Music Theater

Following baritone Bo Skovhus (2021) and Kammersängerin Brigitte Fassbaender (2022), the Weimar University of Music's Department of Voice | Music Theater is once again receiving a top-class visit. The world-renowned soprano Dame Felicity Lott will be giving a public masterclass at the Belvedere Studio Theatre from 4 to 7 December.

The course culminates in a final concert on Thursday, December 7 at 16:00 in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus. Admission is free!

"With the famous soprano Dame Felicity Lott, we have invited a singer who has made a name for herself worldwide as a Lied interpreter," says voice professor Anne Schwanewilms. "There are numerous outstanding recordings of her recitals of French, English and German songs. Her affinity for French song is particularly noticeable: she studied the language at Holloway University in London. Our students can expect a program with an exciting mix of music and language at the master class - we are all really looking forward to it."

The program of the public master class in the Belvedere Studio Theatre includes arias by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as well as German, French and English song. A total of ten students from the Institute of Voice | Music Theater will be taught in public on the three days of the course. The course times are from Monday, 4 December to Wednesday, 6 December from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Soprano Dame Felicity Lott studied French at Royal Holloway London University and singing at the Royal Academy of Music. She has made guest appearances at all the world's major opera houses and worked with renowned conductors and directors.

The soprano is particularly associated with the operas of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Richard Strauss. She has shone in roles such as Marschallin, Arabella, Countess Almaviva and Donna Elvira. She also achieved great success in roles such as Ellen Orford ("Peter Grimes"), Blanche ("Dialogues des Carmélites") and Elle ("La Voix Humaine"). 

She has also appeared frequently in operettas by Jacques Offenbach and Franz Lehar. Dame Felicity Lott is co-founder of Graham Johnson's "Songmakers' Almanac". In addition to awards as Dame Commander of the British Empire and Bayerische Kammersängerin, she received the honorary titles "Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur" and "Officier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres" from the French government. London's Wigmore Hall honored her achievements with the Wigmore Hall Medal.
