Choir and Orchestra of the Music High School Schloss Belvedere welcome spring with a concert

Students of the Musik High School Schloss Belvedere invite you to their spring concert on Thursday, 30 March. At 7 p.m., the concert hall of the High School - the centre for highly gifted students of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar - will be the setting for Robert Schumann's "Spring Symphony". The choir will sing various madrigals by composers from Germany, England, France and Italy. While the spring is being welcomed musically, this year's graduates from the large Belvedere ensembles will say goodbye with the concert.

Robert Schumann composed his Symphony No. 1 in B flat major, op. 38, the so-called "Spring Symphony", as he himself wrote, "in that springtime urge that assails mankind anew every year, even to the highest age". The young, music-loving orchestra members will perform the work from 1841 under the direction of Joan Pagès Valls

The choral direction is in the hands of Annette Schicha. She chose various madrigals for this year's spring concert, polyphonic vocal pieces of the Renaissance based on secular poems. They will, as headmaster Gerold Herzog says, "refresh the heart". Among others, "Nun fanget" by Hans Leo Hassler, "Viver lieto voglio" by Giovanni G. Gastoldi and "Fair Phillis I saw" by John Farmer will be sung.

The concert is a benefit event within the framework of the UNESCO project school activities of the Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere Weimar. The proceeds will be donated to the association "German Doctors". It sends doctors on voluntary relief missions to medically underserved areas.

Information on how to get there: The direct route via Ehringsdorf and Neu-Ehringsdorf to Belvedere is currently not possible due to construction work. Instead, the car park can be reached by car via Possendorf. The bus (line 1) also does not go to the castle. Those using public transport should get off at Hainfels station. From there, the music high school is a ten-minute walk away.
