The duo con:trust with accordonist Daniel Roth and Marius Staible won the Franz Liszt Prize 2022

The board of the Society of Friends and Sponsors of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar e.V. has chosen a duo this year: The accordion duo con:trust with Daniel Roth and Marius Stäuble will receive the Franz Liszt Prize 2022, endowed with 2,000 euros, honouring both musicians for their artistic work as well as their pedagogical-social and exemplary actions and work.

The duo con:trust will receive the Franz Liszt Prize at the matriculation ceremony of the Weimar University of Music on Monday, 10 October, where they will also perform musically.

"Congratulations to the prize winners!" says the chairwoman of the Society of Friends, Prof. Ulrike Rynkowski-Neuhof. "Both are successful competition participants, on the one hand successfully pursuing their musical special fields to explore individual paths for new forms of expression with the accordion, but also repeatedly performing as a duo in a great variety and in very different contexts."

The duo con:trust consists of the award-winning accordionists, composers and pedagogues Marius Staible and Daniel Roth and is an open-minded artistic collaboration that repeatedly realises innovative projects.

The two musicians are in demand nationwide as stage artists thanks to the wide range and flexibility of their instrument. Their work includes not only musical contributions but also choreographic performance, light and visual art as well as film music.

In the Corona pandemic, Marius Staible and Daniel Roth gained wide reach on social media platforms such as Instagram, Tik Tok and YouTube. In addition, the duo released a CD with world premieres of lost compositions from Loheland Gymnastics. Their compositions were broadcast on "MDR Thüringen - Das Radio" as well as Deutschlandfunk Kultur.

Marius Staible studied with Claudia Buder at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar. In 2021 he became first prize winner of the International Accordion Competition in Vilnius. Staible's award-winning composition "Unplugged3" is established as a compulsory piece for competitions throughout Europe.

He teaches accordion in Jena and Erfurt. His students regularly achieve success in competitions such as "Jugend Musiziert". Marius Staible works closely with composers of new music and has already initiated numerous world premieres throughout Germany and in New York in 2022.

Daniel Roth studied accordion with Ivan Koval, Claudia Buder and Veli Kujala at the Weimar University of Music and in Helsinki. The young musician composes and arranges pieces for numerous ensembles, bands, students and performers of the accordion.

He received the Deutschlandstipendium for his outstanding musical achievements. Roth gives lectures and seminars on music theory and jazz and is in close contact with the classical and entertainment music scene in Germany, Finland, Russia and France.
