Celebration on International Women's Day with keynote speeches and lots of music
The Equal Opportunities Committee of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar invites you to a special event on International Women's Day. Under the motto ‘Sounds of Diversity - Undiscovered Strings of Women* in Musical Life’, the audience can expect exciting keynote speeches and a varied musical programme on Saturday, 8 March at 5:00 pm in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus. Admission is free!
The diverse programme includes both instrumental and vocal pieces from the Baroque to contemporary music. ‘We look forward to presenting works that are often neglected and deserve to be heard,’ explains the university's Deputy Equal Opportunities Officer, Prof. Anne Schwanewilms.
‘We want to create a space to strengthen the voices of women* in music and actively promote dialogue on gender equality and diversity. All interested parties are warmly invited to experience an evening full of inspiration and musical discoveries,’ says the professor of singing.
The programme includes the duet "Aus meinen Tränen spriessen" by Fanny Hensel, the Symphony in C major by Maria Anna Martinez and the recorder concerto ‘Sonata duodecima’ by Isabella Leonada. In addition to the musical performances, there will be keynote speeches dealing with current topics of gender equality and diversity in the music scene.
In her lecture ‘Singing with trans* persons’ Anne-Kathrin Wegele will talk about the meaning and challenges of vocal work with trans* and non-binary people and show what role singing can play for identity and participation.
The lecture ‘Gender Equality in Jazz’ by Clarissa Mühlhausen is dedicated to the situation of women* in the German jazz scene and approaches to promoting equality there. The focus is on a current online study on gender equality in jazz and qualitative interviews with female jazz musicians.
