The Jazz Department invites woodwind and brass players interested in studying to an introductory workshop

A newly designed workshop at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar is aimed at brass and woodwind players interested in studying. The Jazz Section at the Department of New Music and Jazz invites young musicians specializing in jazz saxophone, jazz trombone, jazz trumpet, jazz flute, and jazz clarinet to an introductory workshop on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the University Center am Horn (Carl-Alexander-Platz 1 in Weimar).

The main subject lecturers for these instruments will offer instrumental and group workshops for the participating musicians in the jazz department's rooms – and provide information about the bachelor's degree program and the associated aptitude tests at the Weimar University of Music. The varied program includes individual coaching, ensemble work, and a joint jam session.

The workshop will address questions such as: How does the entrance exam work? What does the theory and aural training exam cover, and how can I prepare for it? What repertoire should I master for the major exam, and what musical focus should I set? What is the focus of the Bachelor's program in jazz at the University of Music in Weimar?

There will also be an opportunity to meet the students and teachers of the department in person and to visit the classrooms. The following teachers will be available to answer questions about their respective subjects: Silke Eberhard and Peter Ehwald (saxophone, clarinet, flute), Chris Mehler (trumpet), Matthias Müller (trombone), and Jörn Marcussen-Wulff (theory and aural training).

Please register by email at peter.ehwald(at)hfm-weimar.de.
