28 ensembles from Europe, Canada and the USA have registered for the JOSEPH JOACHIM Chamber Music Competition
From Denmark to Italy, from Hungary to France: a total of 28 ensembles from across Europe, Canada and the United States have registered for the 10th International JOSEPH JOACHIM Chamber Music Competition.
The competition will take place from 30 March to 5 April 2025 in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar and honours the legacy of the great violinist and composer Joseph Joachim by promoting artistic excellence in chamber music.
The competition can also be experienced in a livestream on www.hfm-weimar.de and on the university's YouTube channel during the second and final rounds.
Prizes worth more than €20,000 await the best ensembles in the categories of piano trio, piano quartet and string quartet. The main prize is endowed with €10,000. In addition to the prizes and special prizes, the ensembles receive international recognition and valuable networking opportunities.
A diverse repertoire is required, ranging from classical and romantic to contemporary works. The international jury, chaired by the President of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar and violinist Anne-Kathrin Lindig, consists of experienced musicians and educators.
The competition is a member of the ‘World Federation of International Music Competitions’. The international competition is named after the violinist, conductor and composer Joseph Joachim (1831-1907), who was part of Franz Liszt's inner circle during his time as concertmaster of the Weimar Hofkapelle. As one of the most important chamber musicians of the late 19th century, Joachim played in the legendary Liszt-Joachim-Coßmann piano trio.
