A sounding house: The Music High School Schloss Belvedere celebrates "70 years of special music school in Weimar"

The Music High School Schloss Belvedere celebrates "70 years of special music school in Weimar" with panel discussions and concerts

As part of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar, its centre for highly gifted students also has every reason to celebrate: the Music High School Schloss Belvedere invites you to a weekend of festivities to mark "70 years of a special music school in Weimar".

"A Sounding House" is the motto of the series of events from 23 to 25 September, which will open on Friday, 23 September at 7:00 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Music High School. This kick-off will also mark the 25th anniversary of the new school building.

Contributions by pupils are planned for Friday evening at various locations in the school building. In addition, Wolfgang Haak, Belvedere's headmaster for many years from 1991 to 2019, will provide a historical retrospective. There will be contemporary documents to see - and a resounding "Prosit, Belvedere!" in the concert hall.

The music high school is thus celebrating its building ensemble, consisting of school and boarding school, which was financed by Deutsche Bank and donated to the Free State of Thuringia in 1996.

On the following two days, the focus will be on the close ties between the special music school, founded 70 years ago, and the Weimar University of Music, and on the community of all those involved in training and education at the Music High School. Around 50 former students have registered for the weekend.

On Saturday, 24 September at 10:15 a.m., there will be a panel discussion with historic witnesses from Belvedere in the Great Hall. At 11:15 a.m. there will be a guided tour of the building ensemble, during which pupils will give the "Old Belvederians" space to reminisce.

The programme continues on Saturday at 3 p.m. with a solo and chamber music concert in the Great Hall, which will be performed mainly by former Belvederians. At the end of the day, there will be an anniversary ball at 7:00 p.m. with opportunities to meet in the Chamber Music Hall and the Mensa.

The festive weekend will conclude with a matinee on Sunday, 25 September at 11:00 a.m. in the Great Hall. For this event, the current students of the Music High School will rehearse various works together with a project choir and a project orchestra made up of alumni.

Admission to all events during the festival weekend is free. The concerts are benefit events in favour of the "German Doctors e. V." as part of the UNESCO project school activities of the Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere.

Please note the current closure of Belvederer Allee when travelling to the concerts: The car park is only accessible by car from the direction of Possendorf. Bus line 1 runs to the Hainfels. From there you can walk or take a shuttle bus.
