Tim Ahlfeld Wins First Prize in the Artistic Competition of the Society for Music Theory
For the second time since 2023, the First Prize in the Artistic Competition of the Society for Music Theory (GMTH) has gone to Weimar: Tim Ahlfeld was honored at the annual conference in Halle (Saale) for his composition “Tiefdruckstille” for boys’ choir, narrator, and tuned glass.
This work was inspired by an excerpt from the Acts of the Apostles and a contemporary poem by Lieselotte Köhler, who is also a student at the FRANZ LISZT University of Music in Weimar.
The competition called for a composition for a boys’ choir or children’s choir on the theme of “Nature and Gratitude.” The world premiere took place in the Ulrichskirche Concert Hall, performed by the Stadtsingechor zu Halle. Tim Ahlfeld was enthusiastic about the performance under the direction of Clemens Flämig: “The piece made a powerful impression and gave the young singers in the boys’ choir a joy in contemporary music, which is very important to me.”
The prize winner is currently completing his studies in choral conducting (Master of Music, Prof. Jürgen Puschbeck) as well as his studies in school music (Master of Education) at the Weimar Music University. He also serves as choir director of the vocal ensemble Sequenz in Halle (Saale) and as choir director of the Singakademie Suhl.
