Born in Tehran, Ehsan Mohagheghi Fard studied piano in Detmold and Düsseldorf with Prof. Bob Versteegh and Prof. Georg Friedrich Schenck. He also studied composition in Detmold and Leipzig with Prof. Martin Christoph Redel and Prof. Fabien Lévy, and completed his studies in composition in Leipzig with Prof. Gesine Schröder. 

He teaches composition at the University of Music and Theatre ‘Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’ Leipzig and has been a lecturer in music theory at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar since 2023. He also performs as a pianist and musical director of the ‘Roter Mond Ensemble’.

His main areas of focus and research include instrumentation with a focus on romantic orchestration, instrumentation retouching around 1900 and emergent orchestration after 1945. Other areas of focus are the interpretation and theory of classical Persian art music and compositional techniques in contemporary music.
