World Wide Weimar

University brings its diversity and internationality back to life through music

The University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar will be making a musical contribution to the theme of "Cosmopolitan Thuringia" on Thursday, 18 April at 7:30 pm in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus. Its diversity and internationality will be brought to life musically in a continuation of the "World Wide Weimar" concert series, which began in 2023.

A varied programme will be offered with diverse genres and stories from Armenia, Brazil, South Korea and Scandinavia, among others. Admission is free!

In the first part of the programme, the scholarship holders of the STIBET programme will introduce themselves musically. These international talents bring repertoire from their own and other musical cultures to the stage. The wide-ranging programme stretches from the Baroque to the modern: from Domenico Zipoli's "Continuo" for Baroque violin and harpsichord to Isang Yun's "Piri" for clarinet. Franz Liszt's "Liebestraum" in salsa style for clarinet, saxophone, piano, electric bass and congas can also be heard.

In the second part of the concert, exchange students on the Erasmus programme will be given a platform to present other educational cultures with their performances. The audience can look forward to the jazzy piece "Bass Burner" by Pete Rose for solo bass recorder, "Sonotas" for tuba and string quartet by Francisco Loreto and a "Swedish Fantasy" for flute and piano by Joachim Andersen.

As in the previous year, the Chair of Transcultural Music Studies will also be taking part in the "World Wide Weimar" concert, bringing along both academic and musical results from the last research trip to Brazil. In addition to a film about the study trip, five Brazilian samba classics will be performed for voice, guitar and percussion.

Other items on the programme include a welcome address by Jens Ewen, Vice President for Digitalisation and Internationalisation at the Weimar Music university, and the ceremonial presentation of the STIBET scholarship certificates by Ly Tran, the Internationalisation Officer.
