Learning from similarities

Conference "Top Sports Music" examines career paths in sports and music

Highly talented athletes and musicians share the goal of being successful. Although the paths to success are methodically different in (junior) competitive sport and in musical training, they are structured very similarly with learning, training, practising, performing and taking part in competitions.

In order to highlight, analyse and discuss parallels here and to learn from them, the interdisciplinary conference "Top-class sport and music. Career paths in high-performance sport and music" will take place on Friday, 19 April between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar.

"In the form of a kick-off event, we want to bring musicians and athletes, sports and Arts Managers, career advisors and music agents into dialogue," says the co-initiator of the conference, psychologist, entrepreneur and Weimar honorary professor Prof. Dr Jana Leidenfrost, who is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Thuringian Sports Aid Foundation. "Despite different prerequisites and challenges, we assume that all sides can learn from each other."

The conference will be chaired by Jana Leidenfrost and Michael Böhm. The conference is open to the public and interested members of the public are cordially invited to attend. Please register in advance by 12 April by sending an email to sport.musik(at)hfm-weimar.de. The event is organised as part of the M.A. Arts Management at the Department of Musicology Weimar-Jena, supported by the Thüringer Sporthilfe Foundation and JL Jana Leidenfrost psychological mentoring GmbH.

After a welcome address by University President Prof Anne-Kathrin Lindig, the conference will be opened by Arts Management Professor Dr Steffen Höhne and the Managing Director of Thüringer Sporthilfe, Arnd Heymann. The keynote speech on the topic "Top careers = made with love!" will be held by Prof Eva Schmitt-Rodermund, President of the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences.

In various panel discussions on the topic of "Storytelling and passing on experiences", top athletes such as Tobias Haug and Tino Edelmann (Nordic combined), Silke Kraushaar-Pielach and David Möller (luge) or Kati Wilhelm (biathlon) will then exchange ideas with successful musicians and educators such as Charlotte Tauber (violin), Prof Christian Wilm Müller (piano) and Christopher Beuchert (double bass). There will also be a creative workshop with representatives from the business world on the topic of "Successful careers and transitions".

Finally, violin professor Dr Friedemann Eichhorn, lawyer and Weimar honorary professor Charles Amman and former luger David Möller will discuss the topic "Looking to the future and building bridges: Top sport music - one universe!"
