  • Frank Strauch was born in 1961 in Kaltensundheim (Rhön), he began his musical education at a music school which then led to the High School of Music Belvedere in Weimar
  • He then went on to study at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar and completed his studies in 1986 with a degree in performance, his teachers were Professors Thomas Wünsch, Kim Kashkashian, Wolfgang Marschner, Rudolf Neel, and Karl Suske as well as members of the Amadeus and Smetana-Quartets
  • For his work as a quartet violist he has been honoured with different prizes in international chamber music competitions in Evian, Salzburg and Regiio Emilia
  • Frank Strauch began to teach in 1984 at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar and in 1994 he was awarded the title of Professor of Viola
  • His work includes teaching young viola players, tutoring chamber groups, testing new educational forms in the Institute of School Music, as well as helping the Viola and Chamber music Course of DVG in Hammelburg for many years
  • He is also a teacher of the Young German Philharmonic and has often been a jury member for the Walter-Witte-Viola Competition
  • He is particularly interested in contemporary music and still plays in chamber orchestras and viola ensembles
