Andreas Wehrenpfennig was born in Freising and took harp lessons in his hometown from the age of seven onwards. He studied under Germaine Lorenzini in Lyon, and then under Professor Helga Storck in Munich and Professor Edward Witsenburg at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, where he completed his concert diploma (‘Konzertexamen’) with distinction.

Even during his studies in Munich, Andreas Wehrenpfennig was engaged as a solo harpist in the Bad Reichenhaller Philharmonie. From there, he moved to the Staatskappelle Halle in 2000. As a soloist, he regularly performs with the Staatskappelle Halle and with other renowned orchestras. Chamber music is also a key component of his artistic work: he has been a guest in the musica nova series with the ‘ensemble avantgarde’ in Leipzig’s Gewandhaus on multiple occasions, and has been a soloist at the IMPULS festival of new music in Saxony-Anhalt.

In addition, Andreas Wehrenpfennig teaches at the Konservatorium Georg Friedrich Händel and the Music Grammar School of the Latina A. H. Francke in Halle, leads the harp class at the University of Music and Theatre in Rostock and gives masterclasses and workshops on a regular basis. Furthermore, Andreas Wehrenpfennig is a regular jury member at competitions such as ‘Jugend musiziert’ and the international harp competition, run by the Franz Josef Reinl Foundation.
