Honorary Professor of Violin

Originally from Hamburg, Sönke Reger studied violin in Detmold and at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" Berlin with Christoph Poppen and Ulf Wallin, private studies later led him to Daniel Gaede. After engagements in Gotha and Nuremberg, he became 1st concertmaster of the Meininger Hofkapelle in 2005.

As a soloist, he has performed violin concertos by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Reger, Bartók and Adès, among others, in Europe as well as Asia. As a passionate chamber musician, he has performed in various formations at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival and the Rheingau Music Festival, among others. He has made radio and television recordings for all major German radio stations and on Arte-TV in South Korea.

In 2008 he accepted an offer by the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar for a position as Professor of Violin at the German Faculty of Music at KangNam University in Korea as part of an international cooperation. In 2011 he returned to the Meininger Theater. Since 2012, he has been a teacher of violin at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar and as of 2016 has been working closely with the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, for which he is also a teacher.
