Dress rehearsal for Thailand

Spring concert with the choir and orchestra of the Music High School Schloss Belvedere

The orchestra and choir of the Music High School Schloss Belvedere invite you to their traditional spring concert on Thursday, 21 March at 7:00 pm in the Great Hall of the Music High School. The concert also serves as a "dress rehearsal" for a concert tour to Thailand.

In cooperation with the Aum Auree Music School, the young orchestral musicians from the Centre for the Highly Gifted at the Weimar Music university will be giving a total of three concerts in Phuket and Bangkok from 2 to 10 April. The trip is sponsored by the Goethe-Institut and the NEUE LISZT STIFTUNG.

The varied programme of the spring concert includes works for choir and orchestra as well as chamber music. The Music High School choir will perform the world premiere of the poem "Dr Zauwerlährling" by Leipzig author Lene Voigt, set to music by Weimar composer André Kassel (*1963). The work is dedicated to the Belvedere choirmaster Annette Schicha.

The programme also includes "Ave verum corpus" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart for mixed choir and organ, "Viele verachten die edle Musik" for girls' choir by Johann Caspar Bachofen and "Locus iste" for mixed choir by Anton Bruckner.

The orchestra of the Music High School under the direction of Joan Pagès Valls will play "Introduction and Rondo capriccioso" by Camille Saint-Saëns for violin and orchestra - the soloist here is Adelina Singer from Year 12. Peter I. Tchaikovsky's fantasy overture "Roméo et Juliette" in the third version from 1880 will also be performed.

Admission is free. The concert is a charity event as part of the UNESCO project school activities in aid of the German Bone Marrow Donor Centre.

Around 120 musically talented students from all over Germany and abroad live and learn at the Music High School Schloss Belvedere. Professional musical training is provided by professors and lecturers from the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar.

In addition to music theory, music history and rhythm lessons, students receive instruction on two instruments, in chamber music, orchestra, choir, composition, improvisation and accompaniment.

With high musical performance standards, the Music High School leads up to the general university entrance qualification. The boarding school, which is part of the school, emphasises a broad, life-oriented general education and harmonious personal development. Graduates of the Music High School play in leading positions in nationally and internationally renowned orchestras and also teach at German universities.
