Jury has decided

The winners of the "6th International FRANZ LISZT Competition | Young Pianists" in Weimar have been announced

The jury has cast its vote: From October 25 to November 5, 2023, the 6th International FRANZ LISZT Competition | Young Pianists took place at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar. A total of 37 musicians from more than 20 countries worldwide traveled to Weimar for the three evaluation rounds.

The international jury awarded eight main prizes and a whole series of special prizes, which were presented at the prizewinners' concert yesterday, Sunday, November 5 in the Weimarhalle. There were also two prizes from a junior jury. All prizes with a total value of more than 22,000 euros were donated primarily by the Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Hessen-Thüringen and the NEW LISZT FOUNDATION.

The 1st prize in the younger category I (up to 13 years) was won by Linda Yuan, born in Germany in 2010, who was also awarded two special prizes: the special prize for the best interpretation of a baroque work and the (shared) Theodor Hlouschek Prize for the best interpretation of an etude by Carl Czerny.

The 2nd prize was awarded twice: It was won by the Irishman Pei Lin Oisin Pu (*2010), who was also honored with the (shared) Czerny Special Prize, and the 12-year-old Thai Puri Puengpipattrakul. The 3rd prize went to Ziyu Shao, born in China in 2010, who also received the Junior Jury Prize in his age category.

In the older category II (14-17 years), Anna Avramidou, born in Cyprus in 2008, won the "Grand Prix" of the competition as well as 1st prize. The young pianist was also awarded the special prize for the best interpretation of a work by Franz Liszt, the special prize for the best interpretation of a classical sonata and the junior jury prize.

The 2nd prize went to 17-year-old Indonesian Collins Tanujaya. The 3rd prize went to Ildikó Rozsonits, born in Hungary in 2006, who also won the special prize for the best interpretation of a contemporary work.

The international jury consisted of Grigory Gruzman (Weimar, chair), Christian Wilm Müller (Weimar, deputy chair), Milana Chernyavska (Ukraine/Germany), Michael Davidov (Spain/Israel), Irina Decheva (Bulgaria/Mexico), Justas Dvarionas (Lithuania), Asagi Nakata (Great Britain) and Tang Zhe (China).

The members of the junior jury were Jan Coretti (Weimar), Odric Aurelian Gaspers (Berlin), Babett Lehnert (Hanover), Adele Schäfer (Dresden) and Pamina Seiberling (Rostock).

The International FRANZ LISZT Competition | Young Pianists was launched in 2005 as literally the youngest competition at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar. Similar to the Weimar LOUIS SPOHR Competition | Young Violinists, its aim is to provide an international platform for highly talented young instrumentalists: In Weimar, the musicians should meet at eye level, compare their level of performance and learn from each other.
