Great responsibility

Piano student Iva Zurbo becomes head of department at the "Heinrich Schütz" Music School in Gera

The piano class of Prof. Christian Wilm Müller at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar has a nice success to report: Master's student Iva Zurbo becomes the new piano department head and teacher at the "Heinrich Schütz" music school in Gera. The 21-year-old Albanian thus takes on a responsible position.

"It's a new chapter in my life," says the pianist, who was born in Tirana in 2002. "For someone my age, it is a big responsibility to be a good teacher and at the same time a good head of the department. I feel very honoured!"

Her main teacher Prof. Christian Wilm Müller adds: "It is a great joy when set goals are achieved with aplomb. Iva Zurbo has won this challenging task with her determination and her versatility as an artistic personality. With her own curriculum vitae and her experience in teaching as well as in management, she will bring her full commitment to Gera. I am very pleased that young people see this work in music schools as a desirable goal and that it makes them happy to achieve it."

Iva Zurbo gave her first concert at the Albanian Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports when she was only 6 years old. A year later, she won 2nd prize at the EPTA competition in Tirana. Before her 10th birthday, she earned more prizes at international piano competitions in Albania, Macedonia, Lithuania and Italy, followed by a multitude of awards in her home country, including several "Absolut", "Ahajdu" and "RTSH Orchestra" prizes.

She completed her Bachelor's degree in the piano class of Prof. Heribert Koch at the Musikhochschule in Münster and is currently studying for her Master's degree at the Weimar University of Music with Prof. Christian Wilm Müller.

In 2017, she was soloist in the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 2 by Camille Saint-Saëns with the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Albania in Tirana. In 2018, she performed the Second Piano Concerto by Frédéric Chopin, accompanied by the string quartet "Son d'aix" in Münster, Aachen and Düren.

Solo and chamber music concerts have also taken her to many other concert venues in Germany. Iva Zurbo became 2nd prize winner at the "Steinway Förderpreis 2021" at Pianohaus Micke in Münster. In the same year she won the "Grand Prix" at the 15th International Karl Adler Youth Competition together with violinist Dana Bostedt.
