Does music make you smart?

Weimar Children's University answers many questions in the summer semester - and celebrates anniversary

Founded in 2003 as a purely musical children's university and continuously developed, the Weimar Children's University is now celebrating its 20th anniversary as a citywide educational series. It invites you to four regular lectures, a family lecture and an anniversary celebration in its 2023 summer semester.

Inquisitive children ages 8 and older are invited to attend the free afternoon lectures, and registration is required beginning March 6, 2023. For more information, visit www.kinderuni-weimar.de

The beginning makes on Wednesday, 29 March at 16:00 o'clock in the lecture hall A of the Bauhaus University Weimar (Marienstraße) the lecture "Water off - of large and small businesses". Diploma engineer Senta Rosemarie Berner from the Bauhaus University will deal with an important but rarely discussed topic: what happens to what we leave behind in the toilets and who takes care of it?

For the second afternoon lecture on Wednesday, April 26, also at 4:00 p.m. in Lecture Hall A at Bauhaus University Weimar, the official veterinarian of the city of Weimar, Madeleine Spielvogel, will speak about animal products under the title "Honey, milk and fish - how does everything end up on the table?" The speaker will focus on issues such as the origin of food and what to look out for when buying it.

"Does music make you smart?" is the topic of the third lecture on Wednesday, May 10 at 4:00 p.m. in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar at the Platz der Demokratie. "Do cows give more milk when they listen to music?" and "Can I learn better with music?" Prof. Anne Barbara Fritzen and her students ask the young audience.

A particularly "burning" topic will be addressed by graduate engineer Felix Lackus from the Bauhaus University Weimar on Wednesday, May 31 at 4:00 p.m. in Lecture Hall A of the Bauhaus University. Titled "Staying Cool in Weimar", he will discuss with junior students such questions as "What happens in the city when it gets too hot?" and "How do we make Weimar a better place for people and animals?"

Children who register for all of the afternoon lectures will receive a student ID card and a bachelor's certificate at the end of the semester if they have attended all four sessions.

On Sunday, June 25, at 10:30 a.m. at the German National Theater in Weimar, children and their families are invited to attend this year's 20th anniversary family lecture. In her lecture for children aged 8 and older, TV presenter and editor Clarissa Corrêa da Silva will address, among other exciting questions, "Who or what is this I?", "What's inside us?" and "What role do our genes play?"

Clarissa Corrêa da Silva is a graduate of Bauhaus University Weimar and has been co-hosting WDR's popular TV show "Wissen macht Ah!" with Ralph Caspers since 2018. Her recently published book "Mein wunderbares Ich - Was mich ausmacht und welche Rolle die Gene dabei spielen," the first children's non-fiction book about epigenetics, will be offered at the family lecture by the Eckermann Bookstore Weimar at the DNT and can be signed by the author.

Following the family lecture on June 25, the Children's University Weimar invites everyone to celebrate the 20th anniversary on Theaterplatz. Tickets for the family lecture are available from May 1 at the theater box office (adults: €3.50, children: free of charge, adults only when accompanied by children!)
