Romanticism in winter

The Collegium Musicum Weimar plays two concerts at the mon ami and the Music High School Schloss Belvedere

Between the melancholic sweetness of Mendelssohn's violin concerto and the comforting heaviness of Brahms' first symphony are the semester-end concerts of the Collegium Musicum Weimar. The symphonic ensemble of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar will present the results of its artistic work on Thursday, January 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the mon ami Weimar as well as on Saturday, January 28 at 5:00 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Music High School Schloss Belvedere.

The program, entitled "Winter Concert," features Robert Schumann's "Overture to Manfred," op. 115, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Violin Concerto in E minor, op. 64, and Johannes Brahms' Symphony No. 1 in C minor, op. 68.

Violinist Maasa Morimoto, who will take her leave as concert master, shines on the violin. About the violin concerto, the Weimar student says: "Each movement has characteristic differences. Lonely, anxious, desperate, energetic, reassured, arrived, overjoyed, excited, autistic ... I personally get a strong emotional lift from the piece."

Artistic direction will be provided by Seonggeun Kim, a master's student at the renowned "Weimar Dirigentenschmiede," who will bid farewell as director of the Collegium Musicum with this concert.

Tickets for the concerts are available at 8 euros, reduced 5 euros, in advance at the tourist information offices in Weimar, Erfurt and Jena, as well as at the box office.

The Collegium Musicum Weimar, founded in 1994, arose from the desire of students of school music to perform demanding symphonic works themselves in the orchestra. Prof. Michael Berg was the first conductor to lead the Collegium before it was placed in the hands of the students of the Institute for Conducting and Opera Correpetition.

The Collegium was incorporated into the Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT Weimar as an official university ensemble at the beginning of the winter semester 2018 and now consists largely of students of music education and musicology. The musical rehearsal work is enriched by students of the Bauhaus University Weimar, the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, the University of Erfurt as well as professional amateur musicians from all over Thuringia.
