He is considered a doyen of flutists of international renown. As a sign of high appreciation for his decades of artistic and educational activity, he has been awarded the Prize for Lifetime Achievement by the American National Flute Society, the Premio alla carriera Flauto d’oro by the Italian Associazione Falaut and the "Doppler Ring" awarded by the Hungarian flute society. In addition to this, the Academy of Music in Krakow Poland awarded him an honorary doctorate for his versatility as a soloist, conductor, teacher and author of didactic flute works. Peter-Lukas Graf studied in Zurich, began his career as solo flutist of the Winterthur Symphony Orchestra and won first prize at the Munich ARD Competition. Later, he also began a career as a conductor: for a decade he worked as opera conductor in Lucerne. From 1973 to 1994 Peter-Lukas Graf was a flute teacher at the Musikhochschule in Basel and has since then been giving masterclasses worldwide.
