Andrew Watts

(c) Sarah Hickson
This British countertenor is on all major stages worldwide - and has distinguished himself not least with his openness to contemporary works. In the season 2018/19 he sings in Judith Weir's opera The Outcast at the Wien Modern festival, in Jörg Widmann's Babylon at the Berlin State Opera and in Aribert Reimann's opera Lear at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. In the seasons following this, he will return to the opera houses in Paris and Madrid - and will also debut at the Stanislavky Theatre in Moscow. In addition to his singing career, Andrew Watts has firmly established himself as a vocal pedagogue: he teaches at the Guildhall School of Music, the Jette Parker Young Artists Program at the Covent Garden Opera as well as at the Opera Studio of the Hamburg State Opera. International masterclasses have taken him to Portugal, Canada and Australia. This will be his first appearance at the Weimar Masterclasses.
